What to Expect for Your Surgery or Procedure

Your Anaesthesia Consultation

You will meet your anaesthetist prior to surgery and you are encouraged to raise any questions or concerns you may have regarding your anaesthetic or the management of post-operative pain. Our goal is your safety and comfort throughout your entire surgical procedure.

Your Surgery

After your consultation with the Anaesthetist, you will be escorted to the operating room by a member  of the staff.

At the conclusion of your procedure, you will be transferred to the Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU), also known as the recovery unit. Here, our experienced nursing staff will monitor you closely as you wake from the anaesthetic. It is normal to feel drowsy or disoriented during this time, and you may not recall much of PACU.

Your Recovery

Once you are awake and stable, you will be transferred to your room on the ward (if you are staying overnight) . As each person experiences and responds to surgery differently, our nursing and medical staff will work closely with you to manage any discomfort and ensure that your recovery is as smooth as possible.

Please remember, it’s important to communicate openly with the team caring for you. If you are experiencing pain, feel unwell, or have any concerns—no matter how small—do not hesitate to let us know. We are here to support you every step of the way.
