Which health insurance funds does APH accept?
Adeney Private Hospital accepts the vast majority of Australian private health insurance funds. Approved healthcare funds at Adeney Private hospital are shown below. If you have any questions about your health fund coverage at Adeney Private, please call us on 03 7049 5000.
What does “zero out of pocket” actually mean?
Adeney Private Hospital is Australia’s first and only zero out of pocket hospital. This means that for private health insurers who have a zero out of pocket Contract with Adeney Private Hospital, their inpatient members will NOT receive any extra bills across entire hospital services-all inpatient costs are covered!

I have health insurance but not with Medibank or Bupa: can I still come to Adeney Private?
Yes, you can! You can attend Adeney Private Hospital as if you were attending any other private hospital, as long as you are covered for the procedure.
Which health funds have zero out of pocket charges at APH?
At present, zero out of pockets costs are available to MEDIBANK PRIVATE and BUPA members.
Some non-standard care not included.
Do I still need to pay my health insurance excess?
Yes. If you have chosen a policy with an excess, this will need to be paid before your hospital admission, as it would at any hospital. Please check your policy with regards to this.
I do not have private health insurance-can I still come to Adeney Private Hospital?

Do I need Gold or Silver level health insurance to be admitted to APH?
Like any hospital, you will need to have insurance that covers your procedure. Your surgeon will give you an item number and you can check with your insurance company to ensure you have the appropriate level of cover.
Does APH have private rooms for overnight patients?
Yes: all patient rooms at Adeney Private Hospital are private/single occupant only and each have their own private ensuite facilities. Each room also has an in-room safe for your valuables.
What do I need to bring to hospital?
Important cards / paperwork:
- Medical Cards, (including your Medicare, Private Health Insurance and Pension cards).
- Copies of any relevant current x-rays, scans, or pathology results.
- Current medications and a list of medications (including medications you have been asked to cease prior to surgery).
- Documents relating to advance care planning (a medical treatment decision-maker, appointed support person, guardian, medical power of attorney, treatment refusal certificate, or advanced care directive).
- Photo identification.
Important Items:
- Physical Aids: Ensure crutches, walkers or other walking aids are labelled with your name.
- Vision and Hearing: Pack glasses, contact lenses and hearing aids, along with cases for storage.
- Clothing: Choose loose, comfortable clothing and supportive footwear that holds the foot supportively.
- Personal Items: Don’t forget slippers, a dressing gown, sleepwear/underwear and toiletries like a toothbrush and toothpaste.
- Phone charger: A charger for your mobile phone (or other electrical devices such as an iPad) is essential.
- Reading material: Bring books or light reading materials for entertainment.
Please do NOT bring:
- Large sums of money.
- Jewellery (a wedding band is permitted).
- Large suitcases.
- Handbags.
- Hairdryers/ hair straighteners
** Adeney Private Hospital takes the safety of our patients and staff very seriously. We ask that you take the time to check that all electrical equipment you plan to bring to the hospital is safe to use e.g. no exposed wires, plug pins are straight, the plug does not have damage.
Do I need to bring all my regular medication with me to hospital?
Yes- if you are staying overnight or longer, you must bring all your current medications with you on admission day. Please also include any medications that you have been asked to cease prior to surgery.
Do I need to bring my own set of crutches to hospital?
Yes- please bring your own crutches with you if you will require them after surgery.
My child is being admitted to APH: can I stay in the hospital room with him?
One parent or guardian must stay with a child/paediatric patient whilst they are an inpatient at Adeney Private Hospital. Adeney Private Hospital supplies all parent/guardian meals free of charge whilst their child is an inpatient. Inpatient rooms at Adeney Private Hospital are very large and there is plenty of room for both the patient and parent. All parent bedding is also supplied by the hospital at no extra charge. The age of a Paediatric/child patient is any child UNDER the age of 18 years (as defined by the Victorian Government).
What do I need to pack for a child staying overnight in hospital?
Clothing: Comfortable, loose-fitting pyjamas and clothing. Underwear.
Footwear: Slippers or shoes with non-slip treads are ideal.
Comfort Items: Favorite stuffed animals, blankets or other special items can help ease anxiety.
Medical equipment: If your child uses a walker, hearing aids or other adaptive equipment, please bring this along at admission time.
Toiletries: Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, hairbrush, and any specific items like special lotions or hair ties/clips.
Entertainment: Pack any reading books, colouring books, electronic devices, headphones and all chargers as required. Please ensure that all electronic devices and chargers are in a safe working condition.
Medications: All current medications, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Please bring along with a list of dosages and frequency.
Eyeglasses or Contact Lenses if required.

I have severe food allergies: can the APH kitchen cater to my special dietary requirements?
Adeney Private Hospital places great importance on providing highly nutritious, delicious and wholesome food for all patients. We will always prepare your meals with strict levels of food hygiene and safety in mind and our trained staff will ensure that any special dietary requirements are catered for. Before your admission, our online patient admission form will ask you to tell us if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies so that the Adeney Private kitchen and chef team can be prepared for your needs.
How do I order my meals whilst I am a patient at Adeney Private Hospital?
All meals at Adeney Private Hospital are ordered via the patient services smart screens found in each room. You can also order you meals on-demand and when you feel like eating and they will be brought to your room as soon as they are prepared. Our menu is extensive and allows for variations and options to be made for your meals.
My family is visiting me in hospital-is there anything that they should NOT bring?

For patient safety, lilies and potted plants are not permitted at Adeney Private Hospital. Lilies are restricted due to their exposed pollen, and potted plants are prohibited because any potting mix may carry harmful bacteria.
Food from outside Adeney Private Hospital
Your safety is our priority. Adeney Private Hospital prepares all the food onsite ensuring the required food guidelines are met. Adeney Private Hospital does not allow food that is prepared outside of the hospital to be brought in for any patients. Thank you for your understanding.
We kindly request that visitors who are feeling unwell- or have members of their household who are unwell-do not attend the hospital to visit a patient.
What should I bring to my chemotherapy infusion or medical infusion appointment?
A list of your current medications.
Your Medicare card.
Your Private Health insurance details.
You are welcome to bring a favourite book or your device & headphones.
Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear.
I am starting my chemotherapy at APH- can I bring along my best friend for help and support?
Yes! You are welcome to bring along one support person to your medical infusion appointments.
I have a medical infusion appointment booked in 2 days at APH, but I am feeling unwell: how do I notify the Adeney Private medical infusion centre?
Please call us as soon as possible if you are feeling unwell on the day of your appointment- or the day before your appointment. The direct phone number to the Adeney Private Hospital medical infusion centre is: 03 7049 5300.
How do I book in to be a patient at Adeney Private Hospital?
You will need to visit your GP and obtain a referral to one of the appropriate Adeney Private Hospital Specialists listed here on our website. You are welcome to call us if you have any questions regarding our Specialists or Surgeons on 03 7049 5000.
What is my admission time?
Adeney Private Hospital can confirm the date of your admission. For the admission time, please contact your Surgeon/Specialists rooms.
Can I eat or drink before my procedure?
Your fasting instructions will be provided by your Surgeon/Specialists. Please contact their rooms for this information.
How do I complete my pre-admission form?
You can access and complete your admission forms through the online admission form here
You will need to create a username and password to complete your online forms, and you will require a valid email address and mobile phone number to submit your forms. Once your forms are submitted, we will prepare for your stay at Adeney Private Hospital.

Where can I park at Adeney Private Hospital?
Adeney Private Hospital has onsite parking underneath the hospital and the first 2 hours are free of charge. Please enter the carpark via Adeney Avenue.
Please note there is no parking permitted at the Drop-off / Pick-up turning circle at the main hospital entrance. Cars can wait at the drop-off / pick-up point for a maximum of 5 minutes
There is all day and 2-hour parking around the hospital- please check local signage. Please see the below map for details regarding on-street parking.
Can I leave my car in the Adeney carpark if I am an overnight patient?
If you are an overnight patient at Adeney Private Hospital you can securely park your car in our underground carpark located at the hospital and parking rates will apply. Car Park hours are 5.30 am – 6.00 pm, Monday – Friday. You can exit the carpark at any time but cannot enter the carpark after 6pm.
