Zero Out of Pocket Information for BUPA Members

Adeney Private Hospital is Australia’s first private hospital to provide Bupa customers with eligible hospital cover ZERO out-of-pocket costs across its full suite of hospital services, noting that some exceptions may still apply.

This means that eligible Bupa customers who are inpatients at Adeney Private Hospital can expect no additional charges for:

  • Surgeon and Surgical Assistant fees
  • Anaesthetist fees
  • Perioperative Physician fees
  • Onsite Radiology costs (I-MED Radiology Network)
  • Inpatient Pathology fees (Melbourne Pathology) and
  • Inpatient Pharmacy charges (Slade Pharmacy)

Where appropriate, comprehensive pre-admission and post-surgery rehabilitation services are also included.

What is not covered?
Excess and co-payment charges

Bupa customers may still be required to pay an excess or co-payment or may be subject to policy exclusions depending on the level of cover they hold. Bupa customers are encouraged to check their policy terms for details and contact Bupa with any questions.

Other Exceptions

While Bupa customers with eligible hospital cover are generally not expected to have out-of- pocket costs for hospital services received at Adeney Private, some exceptions apply.

Out of pocket expenses may still arise for:

  • prostheses not included on the Governments Prescribed List
  • high-cost medications (non-Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme PBS)
  • services not covered by a patient’s specific hospital insurance policy
  • cosmetic surgery

To avoid unexpected costs, the treating doctor and the hospital will provide informed financial consent to the patient prior to an admission.
